Mr President,
We are writing to you to express our concern about the situation of Rozbrat Squat in Poznan. As friends and supporters of the activity of the squat we are deeply concerned that the city authorities keep on ignoring not only the activity, but also the existence of the 15-year old social, cultural and political centre which is well known around Europe and around the world.
Throughout years Rozbrat activists have been involved in many activities in Poznan and also in other places, that have shown their involvement in many important issues. Their cultural activity have always been widespread and have embraced many inconvenient, non-conformist or forgotten artists and also those who are widely recognized and respected and are willing to present their art for non-commercial satisfaction. There have been hundereds of concerts, exhibitions, performances, lectures organized at Rozbrat and what needs to be highlighted is that none of them have ever been sponsored or granted, they have been always made because people had energy and passion to present what they felt is important and interesting.
What is more important, Rozbrat has also been a base to a lot of social and political events. The community based around the squat have taken part in many imporant struggles of the communities of Poznan, be it the neighborhoods protesting against the F-16 aircraft base, or the workers from many factories in the area of Poznan, where people who were exploited were courageous enough to stand up for their rights.
Rozbrat is also a house for around 20 people. Facing the threat the Rozbrat's eviciton, we are not only facing the disappearance of a very imporant social centre but also depriving people of their home.
We are aware of the fact that the city authorities have ignored the existence of Rozbrat on the maps of local space planning what gives a green light to the demolition of this absolutely valuable space, valuable not in the financial sense, but in the sense of losing one of the most imporant spots of independent politics and culture in the Eastern Europe.
We would like to inform you that we will keep on following the situation of Rozbrat squat and will be ready to defend it by all means necessary until they will recognized as lawful inhabitants of the space under the address Pulaskiego 21a.
Your sincerely,
